South Downs Singletrack

Whiteways - Houghton Forest

South Downs Mountain Biking Whiteways MTB

Just north of the historic Arundel lies Houghton Forest and the popular Whiteways cafe. Crammed full of bridleways and woodland trails, this popular spot is a favourite for family walks, horse-riding and mountain biking. The trails and close proximity to the South Downs Way is perfect for all levels. Fast flowing woodland singletrack trails that connect all parts of the forest are often covered in blue-bells during the summer months. The ancient 'Monarchs Way' runs through the heart of Whiteways and intersects numerous bridleways. Looping rides to build fitness or practicing new bike handling skills on the trails, Whiteways has it all.

Stanmer Park - Brighton

South Downs Mountain Biking Stanmer MTB

On the city limits of Brighton and Hove is the 5,000 hectare Stanmer Park. Football, walking, horseriding, a manor house, a tea room and a hamlet all share the idyllic grounds. Mountain biking has long been present and very popular within the wooded hills of the park. The Brighton Big Dog MTB race along with hundreds of local riders enjoy the many hidden, twisting and fast singletrack trails that make Stanmer a local favourite. Throw in the miles of linking bridleways to the South Downs Way this area of Sussex mountain biking provides unlimited routes that Marmalade MTB would be happy to show you.

Friston Forest

South Downs Surrey Hills Mountain Biking Holidays Weekend breaks Friston MTB

Further east towards Eastbourne, Friston forest is close to Seaford and the picture perfect Alfriston. It's the 'jack of all trades' of South Downs mountain biking. A mix of 'old skool' downhill trails plus a green family/beginners trail and the well established red cross country (xc) give Friston a broad appeal. Like many of our MTB hot spots in the South East the woods are full of unmarked, hidden sweet singletrack and Friston is no different with its fast and twisting trails. Once again the network of chalk and flinty bridleways in and around Friston provide countless options to make the most of Souths Downs mountain biking east of Brighton.

Riders Comments

Maddie, Goring-by-Sea

Awesome day today. I was a little concerned when I book, but after an hour of training, on gears and chains, together with seat adjustment, we were ready to set off. I surprised myself with what I was able to do. Although, I am not saying it was easy and at the end I got the hang of low gears and up hills. I even managed some single track. Thank you so much for such an amazing ride out, thanks Marmalade MTB, I look forward to the next trip out.
