Saturday: Snowdon Scramble Up - Shred Down

This Welsh adventure weekend sets the adrenaline pumping and the pulses racing from the very start.
We have promised an introduction to mountaineering plus the world class mountain biking of Snowdonia. However, Day 1 is a fusion of these two sports and is truly unique. You will climb, scramble and scale your way to the summit of Snowdon under the expert leadership of mountaineering instructor Tim Harrop. The ascent will take on the classic ridge of Crib Goch* as Tim introduces you to the skills and team work required to climb this famous mountain. (*weather conditions dependant)

Team of Sherpas

Once at the top, rested and refuelled in the cafe and with the stoke still simmering, we will slam down the saddles and begin the exhilirating shred-fest down to the town of Llanberis, led by our very own mountain bike leader, Sean Howell. However, before you ask, this will be on your own bike! Whilst we are scaling to the summit with Tim, your bikes and riding kit will be carried to the top by our second Mountain Leader, Charlotte and our team of sherpas. We have plenty of Bucket-List ticking trails to choose from. Depending on the weather and how we are all feeling we could take on the Rangers Path with its rugged rock gardens and switchbacks before the flat out return to Llandberis via Telegraph valley.

Sunday:
Let's Ride!

I think we can safely say Day 1 will be truly unique and will deliver the best of both worlds. The menu for Day 2 is all about your first passion of MTB. Snowdonia has a plethora of mountain biking that includes the UKs first trail centres and a network of ancient natural trails that will tick all the boxes. Our job is not an easy one, as there is so much awesome riding to choose from to close out this trip. However, we know all the classics and we have all the options to choose from. For example, there's another summit to conquer on Cadair Idris or the epic natural singletrack of Llyn Crafnant, Cowlyd, Capel Curig and Sarn Helen. Whatever we go for, it'll leave you grinning from ear to ear.

Après Montagne

We may be experts on the mountains but we also know that adventures like this are even more fun when we are out of the saddle or hiking boots and reliving the days achievements over a drink and hearty meal. It is why we also pride ourselves on creating an awesome vibe within the group and therefore we would love you to join us after each day to wind down and relax in one of the many local pubs and restuarants.
Where to stay?
Like many of the other UK national parks there are some excellent places to stay and we can certainly provide some local knowledge and recommendations. To ensure the weekend runs smoothly for the activity transfers and the Après Montagne mentioned above we would highly recommend that you book your accomodation in Betws-y-Coed which is the gateway to Snowdonia.

Here are a couple of accomodation recommendations:
Pont y Pair - B&B with its own cosy bar
www.hotelbetwsycoed.co.uk
The Vagabond - Bunkhouse with its own cosy bar

Are these activities for me?
MTB You will be at least an intermediate mountain biker who is looking to experience a new type of terrain and riding on adventurous trails in remote areas. You will be confident with core mountain bike handling skills and profficient with operating your bicycle in the correct manner on a variety of terrain which in places will graded Red to Black – Please contact us if you wish to discuss this further
The variety of trails we will be riding, will include features such as drop-offs (not all will be rollable), jagged and exposed bedrock with unpredictable loose rocks of varying sizes thrown in for good measure
You have your own suitable mountain bike (Hybrid and budget bicycles are not suitable for this type of riding)
The rides do contain a number of moderately steep long climbs that will be technical in places
You have the personal fitness to ride for at least 4-6 hours per day at a social and comfortable pace
You are aged 16 and over unless accompanied by an adult also participating on this ride

Mountaineering
Ascending Snowdon via the Crib Goch ridge is the toughest way up. Physically it is hard work and involves over 2000 feet of climbing. There are no short cuts and although you will be supported by Tim, you will have to put the work in, step by step, inch by inch! There will be sections where we will be using our hands as well as our feet, and the ridge itself is often described as ‘knife edge’.
The sense of achievement in reaching the Snowdon summit by this route will be massive, only matched by the excitement of the descent!
Still not sure? Please contact us here and we will give you a call

Alison Schulte, Brighton

I had been meaning to go on a Wales MTB trip for a while, but always got stuck at the planning stage... Going with Sean and Marmalade MTB, therefore, was perfect - it probably saved me hours of map staring and certainly made it a lot easier and a lot more fun. The Gap is a stunning place. The view from the top and the fantastic descent are just a few of the highlights of this trip. Totally recommend it and I'm already looking forward to repeat trip.
